RMIT FC Cruise Into Round 3 of the Westfield FFA Cup

Dingley Stars FC: 1

Match Report

Piers Brelsford back amongst the scoring as his brace sinks Dingley Stars FC and puts RMIT into the third round of the FFA cup for the first time in its history.

RMIT looked the sharper team from the off as chances immediately fell to the front men, however the Stars goalkeeper pulled off a string of saves to keep the home team level. Victor Peraza, Camillo and Sam Wood continued to create a number of chances for the remainder of the half but the final touch eluded the redbacks.

In the middle RMIT looked dominant all half leaving very little for the defense to contend with ensuring Danny Graham only had one stop to make in the first half from a long distance strike.

RMIT started the second half with immediate impact. William Barkley was put through on goal and finished from a tight angle into the far post with a driven cross goal shot from inside the area. Brelsford made it two not long after with a composed curled finish into the top corner with his left from a similar position as the first goal.

The match was well and truly over when a Nick Barwell free kick found Brelsford at the far post who controlled and volleyed into the bottom corner for his second and RMIT’s third for the day.

The remainder of the match was heated and included a number of stoppages by the match officials to get the match back in order. Following restart of play Dingley Stars managed to claw a goal back with a close range finish.

Dingley piled on the pressure however it was too little too late and RMIT were able to hold the opposition out for the final 15 mins thanks to some superb work by Graham in goals and a number of last ditch tackles.
Another great result for the redbacks and the cup run continues for 2017.
