MATCH REPORT

RMIT scored 30 minutes into the first half through frontman William Barclay and were able to hold on to take all 3 points of Darebin United SC.

RMIT was happy to give Darebin time on the ball early into the first half and force them into playing the high ball. The RMIT back four and goalkeeper dealt well with the crosses and only limited Darebin to one shot on goal.

Good build up play in the 30th minute saw the ball make its way to Nick Barwell who beat his man and drilled the ball across the front post. Barclay met the ball on the volley and side footed it into the roof of the net. 1-0 to the redbacks.

RMIT had strong claims for a penalty turned down at the end of the first half when Barclay clear through on goal had his shirt pulled inside the area and his run impeded. The referee waved it away and blew the whistle for halftime.

The redbacks found a lot more space in the second half and were able to fashion a number of key chances however their finishing was off the mark on numerous occasions.

Darebin had a key chance in the final moments of the game as the United striker shot a point blank effort right at Danny Graham. The referee whistled for full time moments later and RMIT make a strong start to the State League 4 North League campaign.
