League leaders held to a stalemate at Poplar

Northern Falcons FC: 0

Neither team were able to break the deadlock as RMIT held league leaders Northern Falcons to a scoreless draw at Poplar Oval.

The intensity was set from the off with RMIT lunging into every challenge and bullying the opposition off the park. The tactic seemed to work as the Falcons were unable to enjoy anytime on the ball.

The majority of the half was played with in the Falcons half with RMIT bossing possession. However for all their hard work no clean cut chances were fashioned and the Falcons keeper was forced into a solitary save from a cracking effort by Avelange Junior Lacerda after beating two men and launching a shot from outside the area.

RMIT continued to dominate the match into the second half but as both teams threw men forward to get the win the match opened up. On the 65th minute Northern Falcons were awarded a spot kick following a challenge by debutant David Ford just inside the area. Rory Keenan continued his fine form between the sticks by diving low to his left and parrying the shot away.

Up the other end William Barclay had a header cleared off the line by the Falcons center back with the goalkeeper beaten. Keenan was called on once again from a counter and made a tremendous save from a one on one shot to keep the scores level. Sam Mangelsdorf then broke through with a charging run from the centre of the park to find himself one on one with the keeper but his shot was miscued and was rifled over the bar.

The remainder of the half it looked like RMIT would get a late goal with a number of chances created between Barclay and Dan Jones however the final touch eluded the Redbacks and the match finished 0-0.

Giordano Dalla Vecchia picked up his second man of the match performance in a row after nullifying the opposition centre midfielders with a number of key interceptions and tackles.
