Injuries dominate a tight game
RMIT FC: 1
Watsonia Heights FC : 1
A tightly contested affair in which both teams had their chances to win it finally ended in a 1-1 draw away at Watsonia Heights.
RMIT came into the game still unbeaten and determined to put right the wrongs from the previous round. Both teams came into the game trying to dominate the ball in the middle of the field although Watsonia seemed happy to rely on set pieces for their opportunities early on.
With 5 minutes gone in the first half the first of multiple injuries occurred with Joel Latcham landing awkwardly on an uneven surface and suffering what looked like a nasty injury to his ankle. Dave O’Reilly came in as the replacement after his man of the match performance in the reserves only a few minutes earlier.
The first half came to a close with no major chances for either team to break the deadlock and another potential injury to Rory Keenan.
Watsonia Heights started the second half the brighter and managed to score a good goal after a good knock down on the edge of the box with Rory Keenan just fingertips away. More changes were forced as Sam Mangelsdorf was forced off with a shoulder injury shortly after, another star performer for the reserves Giordano Dalla Vecchia came in to put in another quality performance.
Conceding seemed to be just what was needed to fire RMIT into gear though as they dominated the game for the next 20 minutes creating many half chances before Brelsford fired home from just inside the box, beating the keeper low to the far post with a powerful finish.
The game ended in a frenetic fashion with half chances for both sides to win it as the game became stretched and both teams threw extra players on in the attacking third. The RMIT back 4 still looked assured and solid as they had done all game. In the end it wasn’t to be and the game finished 1-1. RMIT maintaining their unbeaten start to the season.
