FFA Cup Round 1: Old Camberwell Grammarians vs RMIT FC
Brelsford wonder strike ensures RMIT FC progression in the FFA Cup
RMIT FC scored a fine goal to secure their place in the 2nd round of the FFA cup at the expense of a frustrated Old Camberwell Grammarians side.
The night fixture did not stop a record away crowd from attending the fixture with the Redbacks looking to continue their red hot start to the 2016 preseason campaign.
Centre back Jerrit Kloster made his first appearance for the club after international clearance and replaced Alistair Mitchell in the centre of defence after Mitchell failed a late fitness test.
The first half saw the home side control much of the possession with RMIT sitting back absorbing the pressure.
Keeper Danny Graham was a constant presence from set pieces and a number of key saves late in the half ensured RMIT FC went into the break with out conceding.
The deadlock was broken on the hour mark with Piers Brelsford scoring a stunning dipping volley from 30 yards out.
The Grammarians sent everything forward looking for the equaliser but a solid defensive effort capped by a man of the match performance from captain Jerrit Kloster ensured RMIT kept a clean sheet.
RMIT FC looks to continue their cup run against Doveton Soccer Club in the next round and having seen off a strong Old Camberwell outfit there is plenty of cause for optimism.
