FFA Cup Qualifying: RMIT FC vs Kyneton Districts FC

Latcham brace sees off Kyneton District SC

RMIT FC booked their place in round 1 of the Westfield FFA Cup with a deserved victory away at Kyneton.

Early action saw returning striker Jol Latcham pounce on a loose ball in the penalty area after the Kyenton Keeper struggled to deal with a long throw by debutant Nick Barwell to make it 1-0.

The early goal helped to calm the nerves of the visitors who looked in control of the game with 65% possession in the early stages of the fixture.

Binyam Desta saw red after an accidental studs up challenge left Kyneton frontman Ryan Cole grimacing in pain at the 20 min mark.

However Kyneton FC failed to make their numerical advantage count as left back Barwell picked up a loose ball and charged at the kyenton defence before laying the ball off to Latcham who calmly slotted it past the keeper to for his and RMIT’s second of the day.

Following a shaky start to the second half RMIT regained control of the match on the hour mark when Piers Brelsford’s solo effort ended with a well placed shot to the keepers right from outside the area.

A defensive mix up saw Kyenton claw one back with 10 minutes to play, however it proved too little too late as RMIT started off their competitive campaign with an impressive 3-1 away victory.

A man of the match performance by new boy Barwell and goals from the two frontmen will leave the redback supporters confident for the upcoming season. For now, RMIT can rest up after a job well done ahead of a busy schedule before facing Old Camberwell Grammarians away on the 27th of February.
